BRIDGERTON INSPIRED NIGHTGOWN

On Mother’s Day here in Calgary we woke up to snow! It’s been so lovely for over a month but Sunday took a turn away from our outdoor adventure plans and meant that I spent it indoors, sleeping in, staying in my pajamas, watching gardening shows and getting photos with my babies to remember the day by.

I didn’t mind lounging around in my pajamas at all, especially since I finally finished the nightgown I started work on just after finishing the Bridgerton show on Netflix (the first time through, I may have watched it all again now). It’s romantic, so comfy and beautiful, I don’t know why I haven’t taken to nightgowns before. Not wearing a waistband at all is my kind of comfortable! This old bedsheet from the linen closet certainly received a stunning upcycle.

I took lot’s of inspiration from Bridgerton, then sketched out a design structured after nightgowns I’ve made for my daughter, using a zig-zag stitch on the inside to encase the elastic for the gathers to make it comfortable everywhere. When functional and comfortable meet beautiful, it’s my favourite kind of fashion!

Every time I make a piece of clothing, I usually begin because I can’t justify spending hundreds of dollars on beautiful loungewear, like a chemise-style nightgown. By the time I finish any garment I sew, I don’t know how these items don’t cost more to purchase! The hours and the work that go into beautifully detailed garments is so much more than I expect, every single time. It really helps me put into perspective why sustainably & ethically made clothing is more expensive. When garment makers make a fair hourly wage, it has to be!

A Mother’s Day spent in pajamas, doing all of my favourite things and ending the day with a walk all to myself, a gorgeous sunset, and a bath my family set up for me with candles and treats was perfection. Now I just need a few more weeks of that kind of day all put together to help me out of the pandemic exhaustion! Maybe someday, one can only hope.
