“TWO GROOVY” BIRTHDAY PARTY THEME {INSPIRATION AND FREE DOWNLOADS}

We wanted a party as fun and bright as she is, so I settled on “Two Groovy” as our party theme for my two year old girl.  I’ve included free downloads in this post for the decorations I designed and printed at home for the Two Groovy birthday party theme, so be sure to scroll down to find them!

For the party decorations I made a DIY record wall, painted a sunburst backdrop with a, “Two Groovy,” sign and reused the giant paper daisies I made for her first birthday party.  We reused the daisy party hats I made last year as well, and I designed some cute posters to celebrate the occasion with.

I decided to try decorating her cake with icing pom poms…it didn’t work out as I expected it to, the icing was too soft, but it was still delicious and made her scream, “Cake!!!” when she saw it.  I also bought heart shaped paper plates (in our party colors) and flower sunglasses from a fantastic local party business in Calgary (that also ships within Canada), A Little Confetti Shop.

How to Make a “Two Groovy” Backdrop and Sign

For the sunburst backdrop behind the birthday girl’s chair, I cut off a piece of large white paper from a roll I had hanging around and used a meter stick to draw lines on it, all of the lines beginning at the bottom center and angling out.

I mixed the exact paint colors I wanted out of acrylic paint I had on hand, ending up with shades of pink, peach, yellow and orange, and painted each section.  I used masking tape to secure it to the wall in the dining room, taped these paper daisies I made last year up on the backdrop.

After that, I designed the “Two Groovy” birthday sign on my computer and printed it on two pieces of cardstock, cut around the edges and glued the two pieces together.  I then secured two folded pieces of cardboard on the back of the “Two Groovy” sign and then taped it to the backdrop to give it a 3D look, the cardboard making it stand out a bit from the wall.

DIY Record Wall Tutorial

Our little one looooves to dance and sing, and since we were going with a 60’s and 70’s birthday theme, what could be better than a DIY record wall in the living room for a birthday dance party?

This project was really simple, I just bought 4 sheets of black poster board (or bristol board, same thing), traced a dinner plate 4 times on each sheet, cut them out, and designed labels in photoshop.

The labels are in the party colours and each have the name of a song from that era, and are all in a free downloadable at the end of this post.  I chose songs whose titles reminded me of our two-year-old, then made a playlist for the party from all of those songs.  You can get it on Spotify right here if you’re throwing a “Two Groovy” birthday party too!

Once you get those labels glued on, you can either tape them to the wall or hang strings to secure them to, like I did.  I would recommend getting stickier tape so they don’t keep sliding down the string like mine did!

Free “Two Groovy” Birthday Party Downloads

The record labels and “Two Groovy” sign can be printed right from any PDF reader, but if you want to personalize the two posters, you’ll need to open them in photoshop and download the font Keep on Truckin’ from Dafont for free, and Funkydori from Adobe Fonts if you want to edit the text.

I hope you enjoy the free downloads, and if you’re throwing this kind of party, have such a good time!  Enjoy your two-year-old! And make sure you’re in some of the photos from their birthday, they’ll want to remember that you were there, making everything extra special.
